This is a great DIY project for your front door. I will be creating a video for this project and posting to this blog within a week.
- Use a door mat that is made of 100% pure coconut coir. This is one of the strongest natural fibers in the world, and easily captures moisture, dirt, and other particles.
- Create a stencil in your Cricut Design Space, or other cutting machine software, with your favorite saying, name, image etc. I used the Raustila Font to create the Thankful saying for my rug.
- Cut the stencil out of freezer paper with shiny (waxy) side on the cutting mat. I recommend the 12″x24″ cutting mat.
- Place the freezer paper stencil on your mat with the shiny (waxy) side down. You can use painters tap on the edges to hold the stencil in place.
- Heat the freezer paper to adhere it to the door mat. The best setting on a Cricut Easy Press is 310 degrees Fahrenheit for 5 seconds. Apply enough pressure and heat to get the stencil to stick to the door mat.
- Now spray the stencil with Rust-Oleum, Black Truck Bed Coating Spray and let it dry thoroughly.
- Now spray the stencil with Krylon UV-Resistant Clear Spray and let that dry thoroughly as well. This should minimize fading of the black paint.
- Next remove your stencil and your door mat is ready to use.
